Explain the stupid no reusing URLs policy to me
-
I want to start a new blog but the URL I want has been taken…only it’s not being used…the person deleted their account…so why can’t I use it? What is the point in having all the good URLs doing nothing but say “The authors have deleted this blog. The content is no longer available.”?? Seems like an idiotic policy to me. If someone is too stupid to notice they are reading a different blog to one they used to read that is surely their problem? Why not just have a time gap between the blog being deleted and the url becoming available again?

A search of the FAQ’s for “recycling blog names” brought this: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/recycling-blog-names/ .
Past that, contact staff and rant at them if you wish. It won’t change things but perhaps you will feel better.

What if the person who takes over the old name deliberately pretends to be the old author?
The policy will not change. When someone deletes a blog, it clearly states that deletion is permanent and the name will never be reused. We will honour that.
