Export all files and MySQL database from WordPress.com blog
-
How do I download and export all files from my wordpress.com blog? I need to get all files, including media files and MySQL database, not just an XML file. Thanks for your help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t. We do not have access to the database. You have to create an XML export file. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

So my media library has to be manually downloaded and uploaded into a wordpress.org blog? Is there any other way around this cumbersome method?
-
No. When you create an XML file and then import it there is a prompt asking if you want to include attachments ie. media files, including image files.
-
If you use the setting by @timethief above – media that is part of a Post or Page will be transferred –
Media that is not attached to a Post or Page will not be transferred and those will need to be manually moved

Is there a way to link gallery’s or slideshows to a post or link so it is transfered with the rest of the blog?

I did an export from my history blog as a test
13.1 mb media in the Blog –
XML export file 302 kb – so there is not room for the media in the file – and the XML file is a plain text file that opens with a plain text editor – when I reviewed the contents of the XML file – lots of links to the Media Files.
Staff response, bit vague: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-transfer-my-media-library-from-one-wp-blog-to-another?replies=2
Import Documents:
Importing Media (Photos, Videos)
If you are importing content from another WordPress-powered blog, you can check the “Download and import file attachments“ box and the media files will be downloaded from your old host and uploaded to WordPress.com.
And I remember seeing some references to the source blog as needing to be online for the Media transfer to work – if the Media files were in the XML file there would be no reason to need the source blog online for media to be transfered
I flagged this for staff review

Hi there,
The export function is indeed a flat file (XML or WXR file as we like to call it), which contains your posts, pages, comments, and a variety of other items in text-only format.
When it comes to media, the WXR file contains direct links to your various media items which, when uploaded to any number of other services (prime amongst them being a self-hosted WordPress.org account), will allow them to fetch from WordPress.com your media, download it, adjust paths, and display it correctly on your new blog.
Now if you are looking to have in one single zip file ALL of your files including media, then you will need to at least temporarily set up an account with another entity such as a WordPress.org installation, and do an export from WordPress.com. You can then import it into your WordPress.org site and then use one of any number of plugins to either export the MySQL and media files or backup the entire installation into a single zip file.
Here are a couple of help articles which will help out with exporting and importing, which are largely the same regardless of the platform you’re on:
