Export and import of content – missing library files

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi ,

I have my blog using HEMINGWAY REWRITTEN theme. I performed an export from WP using their standard function and then import it into https://turistinfamilie.ro. It seems that only 30% of the library files were migrated and the pictures from the posts still point to the old WP location.

    I’d appreciate a feedback on :

    – why the library was not migrated
    – how to fix this and avoid a manual process for over 2000 pictures. I am on the free plan on WP so no plugins can be installed.

    thanks in advance.

    Adrian

As I am on the free WP plan, is there a way to export my Media library ?

  • Hi @blogcalatoriiinfamilie,

is there a way to export my Media library

Yes and no. You can export the data. The files themselves need to be imported into a new site with the import tool.

If your host times out while importing, some of the files may not come through, and a re-import would be necessary.

If possible, I recommend clearing the site*, then splitting the export into smaller parts so it’s less likely to time out at your host. You could do this either by taking the file and running it through a splitter, or by exporting a subset of your posts here:
    https://blogcalatoriiinfamilie.wordpress.com/wp-admin/export.php?type=export

For example, you could export your largest category first, ensure that all of those images come through, then export and import the next largest category. Once you get through the bigger ones, do a full export and run that. The importer won’t overwrite what’s already there, so it should be less likely to time out at that point.

*I recommend clearing the site first helps because, as I mentioned earlier, the importer won’t overwrite what’s already there — even to fix mistakes. Clearing it gives you a fresh start.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need more help.
