Hello, blog is taking forever to export. Over an hour so far. In addition I’d love to know how to get hold of a ‘happiness engineer’ as they don’t seem to be contactable any other way. And how to delete messages from public forums that I didn’t want in the public forums to begin with.

    Hello there,
I see you’ve been attempting for an hour, Exporting your blog may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the amount of content such and posts, pages and tags that your blog has.

You should receive an email when it finishes. I took a peek at your blog and it looks like you have quite a few posts there so this may take some time.

If you’re exporting your blog to migrate to another service, such as a self hosted WordPress.org installation please note the following:

Please bear in mind that uploaded media, such as images will not be exported, but references to the media will.

If you intend to move your images as well, the following from the support pages is important:

Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, if you intend to delete content (or the whole blog) here at WordPress.com, please wait until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog, and make sure your site is not set to private! -https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

    I hope that helps.

To call a thread to the staff’s attention I’ve added the modlook tag to this thread.

  • Exports can take some time depending on your blog’s size and it looks like you have quite a bit of content.

Fortunately you can walk away from the process without risk of stopping the import process:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

If you’d like to carry on with blogging, it’s safe to navigate away from the screen once the export is in progress. We’ll also email you a link to the export file, which will remain available for download for about a week.

Happiness Engineers can be contacted via https://wordpress.com/help/contact if you have a Personal, Premium, or Business plan, otherwise your requests submitted there will be submitted to the forum.

Thanks for the replies, it would help if they gave us a clue as to how long but nothing in this day and age is pretty shambolic. Also it says all content so I am expecting all content especially due to the time it’s taking.

  • Hi there,

I can see several exports on your site, and they all completed in less than a minute. We sent you an email with the export link each time. If you didn’t receive those emails, they might be sitting in your spam folder. Can you please check there?

found them but it’s only exported one blog and one page.

  • Did you do the export from My Site ->Settings? Can you please check if it works if you do the export from this link instead:

Hi Kokkieh, it moved the blog, but NOT my images! How do I cure that one?

  • Unknown's avatar

No sorry, it’s only moved 43 blogs out of 219 and barely any images. Plus I can’t use the same theme.

  • Unknown's avatar

There has got to be a simpler way, I tried from tools > export but a) it hasn’t moved the whole blog and b) I can’t find a theme on .org version I like. None of them do what I want. The existing .com blog is fine but I need to add social widgets and e-commerce. That’s all, how hard is that?

  • To what site are you importing? If not all content is being imported, the problem is with the site where you’re importing, not with the export file.

What do you mean by social widgets? WordPress.com has a number of social media integrations and widgets included by default on free sites.

For ecommerce on WordPress.com we offer the options of a simple payments button on the Premium or Business Plan:

    Simple Payments

Or if you want a fully integrated shopping cart you can install any ecommerce plugin like WooCommerce on the Business Plan.

I am trying to export/import to the new wordpress.org under my domain kelvinhayesglobal.com

I mean twitter, soundcloud, flickr etc.

woo commerce doesn’t work on .com as far as I know.

So I now better off with a wordpress.com is that what you’re telling me?

  • Unknown's avatar

is there anyone in the happiness league that can just answer my question.. can I point my kelvinhayesglobal.com url at my wordpress.com blog?

With a few minor tweaks.. it needs to show my social media logos and have woo commerce, is that so hard?

  • Unknown's avatar

So far I can’t see any benefits to Blue Host or .org, nothing has imported as it should, the only thing I can’t do on .com is add a shopping cart and some social media icons.

  • I am trying to export/import to the new wordpress.org under my domain kelvinhayesglobal.com

If the import to your self-hosted site is failing it’s likely an issue at your hosting provider. Most commonly you’re hitting the memory limits on your server, and that causes the import to time out. This needs to be fixed on your hosting provider’s end.

For more help with imports to self-hosted sites, you can also ask in the self-hosted WordPress forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

I mean twitter, soundcloud, flickr etc.

We have widgets or embed options for all of those:

    Twitter

    SoundCloud Audio Player

    Flickr Widget

If you simply want to display icons for those services, see:

    Social Icons Widget

    Add a Social Links Menu

Add Social Media Buttons to Your Sidebar or Footer

woo commerce doesn’t work on .com as far as I know.

I wouldn’t have said above that it worked if it didn’t. If you have the WordPress.com Business Plan you can install WooCommerce, as well as any other ecommerce plugin for WordPress.

You have not asked this particular question yet in this thread. Yes, you can point your domain at your WordPress.com site using the domain mapping upgrade included in all our plans:

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

Thanks for your comprehensive answers. The problem is as you say at the Blue Host end then there is an added problem that their tech team don’t appear to know what the hell they are doing. Last night I waited 10 minutes for an idiot to tell me to look at my gallery page when I said my images hadn’t loaded from import.

I meant pointing the wp.com at my domain name but I’ll check your link.
The social widgets don’t show in any of the themes I’ve looked at, but again I will check your links above. Thanks sincerely, hope I can iron out all of these teething problems.

  • The social widgets don’t show in any of the themes I’ve looked at,

Widgets aren’t part of the theme. The theme comes with widget areas, but you need to add in the widgets you want from the Customizer.
