Export Blog Only To MS Word

I realized that I can export to XML. But I need only the dates and the blog for editing on MS Word for book publishing. How do I do that?

No method that I know of right off. You might be able to import it into Access and export out just the fields that you need.

you can open your *.WXR in openoffice as an XML file. You might need to delete the comments inside wordpress first (if you want the comments to remain on the blog, export, import to a test blog, delete comments, re-export), and then open the file. Then you can save it as a *.DOC file.

M$ office also has an XML editor, but i’ve never used it.

How many people want something like this? I could build it.

I would try it out if you built it engtech! It would be pretty neat really to have a backup format in word (but not too often as it eats major resources off the server when you backup here)…… ;)

I’m even interested in this! :) Imaya

    I’d be interested too engtech.

heehee, if you build it, they will come!

(just being silly, i don’t need it)

I’d be interested. A book-format would help me in portfolio terms (even though I know Word is a bitch to work with for any sizeable document).

engtech, For anyone who is contemplating to publish a book, this tool could really help. If you allow the user to select the fields, sort the dates as well as split into several .doc based on some criteria. Any writer could use WordPress tools to write, but MS Word as final “double spaced” doc for publishers. Your tool can also help everyone at Blogger by utilizing WordPress to import first.

    For reference:

Granted that this does not directly apply to the OP’s situation, but for anyone planning to use a blog to write a book there are two things that I’d like to contribute to this thread.

    (1) There is a technique that can be used to structure a blog so as to produce a book provided by Mark in the FAQs http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/04/how-to-write-a-book/

    (2) In addition, another method was used by a blogger in January. She subscribed to her own feed. Then she had a copy of all her blog posts that was not in html format which she saved to disc and had printed in reverse order as a book https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=6752&page&replies=32#post-43882

Cool. I might have something whipped together in about 3 months time (based on my current rate of getting things done).

I want to use this program for splitting the WordPress XML backup into separate HTML files and then committing those HTML files to a source control system so that I can keep track of “older” versions of posts.

I would definitely make the program “smart” about how often it downloads the back-up file.

Knowing the server requirements for this type of download on ‘any type of scale’ is a major thing to think about because I know the Staff don’t want any backups that aren’t important as the backups through the admin are really ‘server intensive’! ! ! !
