Export function not working correctly

    I’m trying to export from a wordpress.com to a wordpress.org site (already set up). When I go to import on WordPress.org, I get this error message ‘Sorry, there has been an error.
    This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number’

    Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    @heymay – are you trying to import the .zip file or have you unzipped that file and are attempting to upload the .xml file?

    NOTE: to import, you need to import from the .xml file in order for it to work.

    Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    I’ve been trying to upload the zip. Should I unzip it and upload the .xml?

    Yes.

    Uploading the .zip file will cause the error you’re seeing because the importer is expecting a file ending in .xml. It should work if you upload the .xml file.
