  I am looking to export my entire site, so that I can host it on a platform that I am already paying for. I designed everything on wordpress.com, and now I have spent almost 3 hours trying to export my site without having to upgrade my plan. I don’t know what I should do here, because I am not going to spend $40 to get the plugin to migrate this site when I should be able to do it for free. Is there ANYTHING that I can possibly do, or is this entire website a lost cause?

  You are welcome to export your site contents at any time, and we offer a guide here with steps you can follow to move the contents of your WordPress.com site to a self-hosted websites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

  Please note that WordPress.com is a managed WordPress provider and we use a custom version of WordPress for the best performance/stability possible. This means that some items (such as your theme and/or design preferrences) are not able to be exported. They use code that would not be understood by a WordPress site you have with another provider since they use a different version of the platform.

  If you require a complete migration (including your theme design) that is possible via plugin, but will require upgrading to the Business plan since it’s not possible to add plugins on our free sites. https://wordpress.com/support/export/#export-using-a-plugin
