Export Individual Posts
-
I have started a 2nd WP.com blog and would like to know if there is a way that I can export only posts from a certain category into my new blog as opposed to all of the posts which span over the course of 7 months.
Thanks,

No easy way to export one post I am afraid. The export function is for the entire blog. Best you can do is the old “copy and paste” I am afraid!

You could bring the posts out in the RSS feed, but wordpress.com took out the RSS import. I don’t think it would import into the wordpress filter as it now is the different importer/exporter format. I guess, maybe I should try it out, but I don’t think it will work (properly anyways). I will actually test it and report back though….

It didn’t go 100% proper formatting and it imported all the entries as ‘drafts’. It did work however and when I tried to import the file again, it didn’t import items already in there. It didn’t work completely as expected, but it did bring in the content! Thanks Raincoaster for making me attempt this! It means that other RSS feeds might import ‘semi-OK’ as well. Worth attempting that as well!

Actually you can with the exporter. Just export out the entire blog. Each entry is contained with item tags. Delete open up the file with a basic text editor like ultraedit and remove the sections that you don’t want in there. Just remember that you have to start editing at the beginning item tag and finish with the ending tag for that section.
Hope this helps,

Thank you so much, everybody for your comments. I did complete what I wanted to do by doing it one post at a time, which wasn’t so bad. The result was that readers were not bombarded by a lot of new posts at a time and that was a good thing… also gave me fodder for quite a few days!
I’m sorry that I didn’t respond here sooner, but I was concentrating on setting up my new blog.
