Export limits?
-
I’ve been contemplating merging some of my blogs and as a test exported 3 sites (4+1+1 xml files), then imported all into one that I currently use to test theme changes (set to private). It went well according to the report, but I only have posts 5 years back to the date I made the exports, missing about 200 posts dating back 3 years before that.
I don’t see a time option on the export menu (also, if one were to do it again it would be nice to be able to pick only the newest post made after the previous backup)
Can I get around this feature without copying 200 posts? And then what happens if I export the merged blogpost back to a public site? Same limitation of 5 years? I use these posts as project reference for myself as well, so it’s a “bit” annoying.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, at My Sites > Settings > Site Tools, click Export and then click the little down arrow to the right and you can choose date ranges for posts.

I did see that info and could not find anything which looked like it. But since you mentioned it, I realise it’s because I use the older admin interface (and I’ll murder somebody if you take it away from me!!!)
I have found the one pictured in the help file now, thank you.

On the new one however I need to decide if I want either posts or pages from a specific dates, not everything from date to date. So I wonder if a full backup still goes only 5 years back – off to try that now, even if I clicked this thing solved!
I’d like an everything backup + dates.

Incremental exports are only available per content type – the WordPress exporter (it works this way in the open source version as well) does not have an option to export all types of content based on a date range.
In other words, it’s either a full-site export, or for a date range per individual content type.
The full-site export should not be missing any posts, though.
To what site are you importing? Do any of the missing posts already exist on the site you’re importing to as deleted posts? The importer checks for existing posts when importing to avoid duplication, and if a post exists in the Trash folder it still exists in the site’s database, and will be skipped if included in the import file.

It was a 5 year backup to the date that I got with the full backup (also the incremental doesn’t mention media, but perhaps those are included all the same). And my site goes back to 2012, so….
The demo site is also wp.com, as the exported sites were, a closed site I ended up not using, emptied of posts and meant to use to test theme changes before “ruining” my other blogs. So it was quite obvious that no posts earlier than august 2013 were imported.
After I’ve played around and merged the posts from all three sites, if I could make it user friendly I was going to export that new conglomerate to another with a domain name., host undecided.
So in that instance it would be nice to make one large, full backup starting with my very first post in 2012, as I have a series of posts on a specific subject which still get a lot of traffic from google and related forums, I can see sometimes in my stats that one person is going through every single one in a day on that topic.
(I could just export the two younger blogs and merge with the oldest with the traffic, but if I want to self host at some point I’ll have the same issue if there is a 5 year limit)
