Export not exporting; no error message, no download link, no email

And I’ve been waiting pretty much all day.

Long story a lot shorter, I have an old WordPress blog that was originally imported from a Movable Type site. I had intended to transfer the contents to a Blogger site but never quite got around to it. Now that Photobucket has gone off the rails and replaced every image in my Blogger blog with its own nag, in the process of fixing that, I decided it was high time I finally imported my older blog entries into Blogger.

I have followed the instructions found at https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ . Several times. I have tried all the combinations I could think off; requesting to export all, requesting to export posts, with decreasing date ranges, finally trying to export posts with start and ending dates encompassing 2 months and then just 1 month.

Zip. Zilch. Nada. Bupkis. I have gotten no error messages, no emails with download links, nothing. All I see is this:

    Your export is being processed!
A download link will be sent to [my email address] when the export has finished.

It’s been several hours since I started trying to export, and still nothing.

I tried suggestions I found in other forum threads, including clearing the Firefox cache and cookies, closing and restarting Firefox (of which I am running the most up-to-date version). I even tried the export routine in the browser on an Android tablet.

    None of these has worked.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thank you….

First of all check that your Firefox browser is up-to-date. If it is then I suggest logging out, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies (which will also log you out of any other site you are currently logged in to), closing your browser and then reopening it and logging back in.

Then return to your Dashboard’s Site Settings>Export and try the process again. Please let us know if you see the spinner spinning. Since it looks like you have a lot of content on your site, this may take some time. Do you finally see the green notice bar that the export was successful? If so, you can download directly from the download link at the right in the green notice bar that appears.

If that still doesn’t work, can you try with a different browser, like Chrome?

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble with the export. Please follow the suggestions that @justjennifer provided below. If you try those steps to no avail, I’d be happy to generate the export on my end and send it to you;.

Just keep us updated, Thank you!

Hi, Darnell. I would very much appreciate if you could generate the export and send it to me. I had already tried all of the suggested steps; latest version of Firefox, cleared cache and cookies, logged out of everything, closed Firefox, rebooted, reopened Firefox. All to no avail, and I never saw a spinner, nor any error message of any kind. I really don’t want to install another browser such as Chrome on my aging computer, so if you would be so kind, I will accept your offer to generate the export. At your convenience, of course. This will be much better than going in and re-creating every single post and back-dating it….! Bad enough I’m having to edit every post with a photo in it to cover the latest bit of #Photobucket nonsense….

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi there,

I sent you an email with a link to your export file. Please download it and let me know if you have any problems.

    Thanks!

Well, it says it’s importing… ::crossing fingers:: Will let you know when it’s successful. ::crossing toes:: Thank you SO MUCH! A virtual chocolate chip cookie to you!

Update: It’s been importing for about an hour and a half… should it be taking this long? The file encompassed about 4 years’ worth of blog posts so it’s pretty good-sized (3167 kb). All I see is “writing blog posts” with a spinner. Is this a normal length of time for a file such as this?

  • You are trying to import the contents of to Blogger, correct?

If so, I would suggest touching base with them. They may have a way to look at the status of your import and reset it from their end similar to the way we do.

Sometimes the importer gets stuck, but I am sure they can let you know if there is some other issue that is causing the stall.
