Hi there, are these the instructions you are following? https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#export-your-content-to-another-blog-or-platform
If you choose “Export All” when you use the Export function, it will export all your blog posts, pages, comments, feedback, categories, etc. In other words, all the text on your site. In that XML file there will be pointers to bring over your media files when you import the XML to another WordPress installation. You can export the images themselves separately from that same Export page.
and I’m not getting all my files
What files do you feel are missing?

I am following the instructions and have multiple times. But when I go to view my new site only 3 posts are showing on the website and I’ve posted 20 times and have some additional pages. My .com site is https://movingtogermany.home.blog/ and my .org is http://two50plusmovingtogermany.com/. And they had to disable plug ins so I could get my dashboard to view. Spent many hours with blue host last night and even they said they can’t understand and I need to check with WordPress.

Hm, odd.
Let’s see if we can get some Staff assistance with this. There seem to be an unusual number of folks reporting export issues. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Howdy –
Thanks for getting in touch. We aren’t trying to keep your content as our own prisoner, I promise :)
Have you tried going here https://wordpress.com/settings/export/movingtogermany.home.blog and just downloading the media option or the content option? Does that work?
-
Lol. I believe you. I did think about trying that but didn’t want mess anything up more. So do I do each one individually and export each individually?
-
Yep, just try both of those options (media and content) one at a time. Let’s see if they create the appropriate export data.
-
So did as you asked. I unzipped the media files but wasn’t sure how to upload them. So I just imported the xml file hoping it knew they were there. Anyways. I got one more day on my post but not all of it. How do I import the media files? There are pictures for the days that are there. This is not the 5 minute move I anticipated lol. Can someone on your end look at the sites and files and see what I am messing up? I will be out for a bit but will check when I’m home later
Thank you again -
Hi there,
The .xml files are what you should be importing to the self-hosted site. Once the content finishes importing, your site should also pull over the media files in your site’s media library here on WordPress.com. If that’s not happening, it points to a problem with your WordPress installation, not with the WordPress.com export file.
The media export from your site cannot be imported to your self-hosted site. That media export is really just a bulk-download of the media library, and not a true export that can be used for content migration.
And they had to disable plug ins so I could get my dashboard to view.
If you had to disable plugins just to get into your site’s dashboard, there’s definitely a problem with your WordPress installation, and you’ll need to fix that first, as that’s also what could be causing your import to fail.
Spent many hours with blue host last night and even they said they can’t understand and I need to check with WordPress.
The “WordPress” you want here is the self-hosted WordPress.org forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/. That’s where support is provided for the version of WordPress you’re using on your new site.

Ok thank you I will go to .org and see how to fix the installation. Seeing how it automatically installed and didn’t give any errors.

Ok was finally able to export by moving over each area separately. But WordPress had to be reinstalled first before I could do that. Still can only see cpanel from a laptop but not in my ipad though.
