Export problem
-
the export file only gives me the first TWO months of my blog when I upload it to typepad, which is Aug & Sept 2007… it’s missing 4 months, Oct, Nov, Dec 2007 and Jan 2008….
-
At least we know the file works :) I guess that should at least get the gents at typepad to help you some more! That or just stay at wordpress.com :)

I was trying to make light (just poking a little fun) but I am afraid that I don’t think there is much more we can do, but if someone else has some ideas, I hope they post as staff (tellyworth) has already posted above. Good luck!

ohalamode: the file exported from your Manage / Export tab is a WXR file. It has a “.xml” extension (because wxr files are xml files), but it is definitely in the WXR format.
The file that you’re downloading has all of your posts in it. If you’re not seeing all those posts when you import to Typepad, it’s because something is going wrong at the Typepad end – not because there’s something missing from the file.
If the Typepad technical folks know what’s wrong and would like to tell us about it, please ask them to email support at wordpress.com with the details – they can mark the email attn: Alex so it gets to me.

Thanks for that. Well I have been dealing with their support for the last 4 days and they are saying that it is not a problem on the Typepad side… here is what they last wrong me. I mean I even went adn changed the file to a zip to see if they could deal with it that way, they tried everything and this is the last email I have recieved from them.
Hi Reese,
After working on the import file to make it valid, it still does not allow the older posts to import. You can contact WordPress to see if they have any suggestions on why the import file will not validate.
If you do not have a large number of posts to import, you may consider recreating the posts and backdating them to match to the original dates. We have information on changing the date and time of posts here: http://kb.typepad.com/id/48/
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

I am trying to import from my WordPress free blog to my new server. I’ve installed WordPress and have gotten in to my admin area and uploaded the file, but it doesn’t upload the theme I have chosen (I can live with that, I am planning on changing the theme, though I seem to see the information for it in the XML) and it only shows like the first three posts. It is also not showing the pages I have created. I had asked for the database backup, but had received a response from WP that I only needed to download and import my XML file. I have since written twice to support with no response yet. I have been trying for a week to figure out what to do and finally found this thread, so I am hoping someone can make a suggestion. Examining the XML in BareBones (am on Mac), shows all my posts are, indeed, there. Please help.
Thank you,

I thought I would add that my blog XML is only 352 kb which is way below the max 2MB allowed for import.
Thanks,

I am having a similar problem. I am trying to export/import from my old wp blog to a new one. Not all of my posts are showing up at the new blog. There are about 4 months missing. I went to the new blog, deleted all the imported files and tried again. this time it did import more of them, just not all, still maybe 2 months missing. The other problem is that the new imported posts have a different id number because I deleted the first set of imports. I should have a total of 133 posts.

I’m afraid I don’t know ANYTHING about imports. The only advice I know is to be sure to empty the Akismet file before exporting, otherwise the spam jams up the pipes somehow.
-
Akismet File??? I don’t have that, that I know of. REally less worried about the id number on the posts, just want them all there, w/o having to copy paste manually, but that’s where I’m headed.

I am having a similar problem. I am trying to export/import from my old wp blog to a new one.
No blog urls have been posted.
So, does “my old wp blog” mean that it’s a free hosted wordpress.com blog or is it a wordpress.org blog. If it’s a wordpress.org self hosted blog then post to http://wordpress.org/support/ to get help. If it’s a free hosted wordpress.com then you need staff help and you need to give them details. -
I have the same problem. I originally imported my blogger site to wordpress.com, with no problems. Now I am trying to migrate my wordpress.com to my own server (still using wordpress as the blog editor), and when I import it, only the posts that originally came from blogger (posted in January and Feb 2007) are showing up. None of the posts from wordpress.com (sept 2007 through today) are importing at all.
I emptied my Akismet spam filter and that didn’t solve anything.
When I opened the xml file in WordPad all of the posts seem to be there. When I tried deleting the section of the file that had imported and then re-importing the file, it imports a few more and then stops again.
When I press the import button, the screen goes blank. I hit refresh and it pops up with “do you want to continue? Yes/No”. I hit yes, and the screen goes blank again. I hit refresh and nothing happens.

How large is the XML file, size wise? I think there is a 2mb limit. If it is over that, you might have to break it up into smaller pieces.
