Export uploaded photos

  Hello,
  I’d like to export (or download) the photos that I uploaded to my blog. I went to the ‘customize’ option and don’t see an ‘export’ tab. Can you please help?

  Hi there,

  The Export feature can be found in the wp-admin dashboard under Tools > Export, or under Configure > Settings > Export (last tab) in the current admin interface.

  Information on the different options available when exporting your WordPress.com blog’s content can also be found here:

  In general, the export feature is designed to transfer content from one WordPress site to another using an XML file. So the actual media files are not included with that zip or xml file, but would need to be downloaded manually. The following note from the above linked article states:

  This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, if you intend to delete content (or the whole blog) here at WordPress.com, please wait until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog, and make sure your site is not set to private!

  Thank you. I would actually like to completely download the media files – I can’t find where I originally uploaded them to my computer and am afraid they are lost. Is there an easy way to download them manually?

  Unless WordPress admins can suggest a technique or service to do this for you (none that I’m aware of), I’m afraid you’ll have to go through your media library and save each one.

  I’ll tag this post ‘modlook’ in case something is available.

  Beyond WordPress, it could be worth a shot to do a search for any browser tools or extensions that might help speed up the process.
