Export WHOLE website with SFTP (or another way) ?
-
Hello,
I’m trying to export a client’s website for lifting purposes and it seems that I don’t have access to all the wordpress files via SFTP.
My client has a premium business account and although I could download the database via PHPMyAdmin, I don’t have access to every files via SFTP..just a few folders here and there.
I know some folders are restricted, but is there a way on WordPress.com to export all the files (theme, plugins, files, installation,…) like a regular wordpress website ?
What if I want to migrate to another host ? Do I have to rebuild the website by downloading and reinstalling every piece of it (except the content) ?
There must be a solution, right ?
Thank you in advance for your help !

Hi there!
If you’d like to export a WordPress.com site to host elsewhere, it might be easiest to use a plugin like this:
If you wish to import an entire WordPress site, including plugins, themes, and users, the All-in-One WP Migration plugin can help you achieve that. Follow the steps in this guide to import an exact copy of your website to WordPress.com. Prerequisites This option is suitable for self-hosted WordPress sites if you have already tried the recommended Import Everything and Move to WordPress.comYou’ll notice that the instructions above are for importing to WordPress.com using the All in One WP Migration plugin. But you can use it to export from WordPress.com as well since you mentioned you have access to plugins on the site.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Thank you !
I will give it a shot.
I generally don’t use plugins to migrate my websites but here it seems locked and I’m left with no other choices.
Have a nice day,

Hi again,
My client has a premium business account and although I could download the database via PHPMyAdmin, I don’t have access to every files via SFTP..just a few folders here and there.
It may help if I clarify that due to the way we have set up our managed hosting, the core WordPress files are totally managed on our end, and are not downloaded via SFTP.
However, you can download the open-source version of WordPress at WordPress.org, and it will contain the remaining files that you need. Essentially a fresh download of the core WordPress software will fill the gaps, and from there you will want to make sure that any folders you downloaded via SFTP overwrites the default folders in the software download.
For example, make sure that wp-content folder you downloaded via SFTP replaces the default (empty) wp-content folder found in the .org software download.
We are not able to support manual moves like this, but if you have experience with doing this yourself, that is how you can combine the download here with the files you need to self-host with another provider.
