Export WP to another hosting

    Hi everyone!
I’ve got a message from WP, that the contents on my blog is not appropriate, and they suggested to export to WP.org. Anyway, that was a mistake message, but made me think about moving my blog to another location. I have several questions:
    1. I have payed to WP for my hosting name (beautylana.com instead of beautylana.wordpress.com) – what happens with it if I move from WP? How do I keep my name and whom should I pay next time when it’s time for renew fee?
    2. If I move to WP.org, then I just use the Export function and create this XML file. But how do I export to a Blogger for example, is it the same easy procedure or you should do it manually (post by post)?
    Thank you.
    Regards, BeautyLana (http://beautylana.com)

    1. In the domain management section of your dashboard here you can change the DNS records for your domain name and point them at the new web host. Since domain name registration is so inexpensive here ($5 per year) you can simply leave it registered here and then you would pay wordpress.com when the registration comes due.

    2. If you move to Blogger, there is an external program that you have to run the XML file through and then import that file into blogger. Do a search on the web for something like “wordpress to blogger” and you should find information on that.

The process for exporting your blog content out of a WordPress.com blog is here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
The process for importing it into a Blogger (blogspot) blog is found by using Google. Try the Blogger help forum http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/blogger?hl=en

You own the domain name and as long as you keep renewing it the domain name and domain mapping are yours. You can point the nameservers to your Blogger blog. As I am unable to access the support documentation at this time I’m sorry I cannot provide instructions.

Hi there. I had had lots of problems today. There seems to be a server move going on that’s very frustrating when it comes to accessing my blogs and support documentation.

Thank you. I just have one last question. I decided to move my blog to WP.org and then I guess, there should not be any problems with the hosting name, right? You just export the blog and all my features remain the same.

You will find that many of the built in features here at wordpress.COM will be missing from your self-hosted site. You will have to find and install plugins to recover any missing features that you need. The best place to start on plugins, once you get it figured out what you need, is at extend/plugins/ over at wordpress.ORG.

Also, check out the Jetpack plugin made by the people here at wordpress.COM for self-hosted sites. It will bring some of the unique features of wordpress.COM to your self-hosted site.

Yeah, I assume I will have to tune the apperance and other features by using different plugins, but it will work. Thank you. I will have a look at the support pages for WP.org as well.
