Export XML file incorrect size

I have my complete blog with wordpress.com and my self hosted clone site. I have tried to export from .com to .org but numerous posts are missing. An old xml file showed as 2.35mb but the latest export(s) are only 300k or so. The problem is not with the import to my .org site but the export from the .com site. It always used to work so what’s changed?

I don’t have an answer to your question. I have flgged this thread for Staff attention. They will need the URL of the .wordpress.com blog you are referring to.

I seem to be able to get your full file just fine. Please try again.
If it doesn’t work again, try exporting each month individually.
Also, for only 45 posts on http://timeflieslikeabanana.wordpress.com/ , 2.35mb is way too big.

I have just tried to export again and as in many tries previously the file size is just 294k and takes i second – which is stated as being the download speed. Perhaps you could send me the export file.
The previous large file is probably because for some reason not to do with me, the pics were messed up and unallocated. I have started to replace them i.e. upload again but there are still lots of posts where the pics are not found and displaced in the post. There are several copies of some pics ihn the library for some reason. This may well account for the file size or it may not.
I had not posted for some time (years) so the only thing that changed was wordpress itself. BTW it would be a good thing if pics could be deleted from the library.

BTW I have another wordpress.com hosted site and the download is 3.2mb, takes a few seconds and is complete so the problem is specific to “timeflies….”

The file that I downloaded is definitely complete. Have you tried doing just specific months?
The export for http://grumpycommonsense.wordpress.com/ is much larger because it has 10x as many posts.

Thank you. I have resolved this by doing as you suggest – a limited download of posts by date only and have recovered the missing posts. Before I was downloading “All”, posts, pages etc and that’s when the problem occured.
