exporting

    Hi there,
    I have a wordpress.com site that I am trying to export into a self hosted wordpress site. It says it is exported and sent to my email, then I download it, but when I go to import it I get the following message
    ‘Import WordPress
    Sorry, there has been an error.
    This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number’

    Hi there,

    Are you trying to upload a .xml file or a .zip file to your new site?

    If you got a .zip folder from us with the export, you need to unzip that, and import the individual .xml files inside it. The open source WordPress software cannot automatically import the zipped folder like our importer on WordPress.com does.

    To unzip a .zip folder on Windows, right click on the folder, and select Extract from the menu.
