Exporting

I’m trying to migrate away to a Hostek self-hosted wordpress site. I’ve done the export/import process but it’s coming out badly and behaving very erratically. There’s wrong links, text missing, pictures appearing super-sized, lots of bad things happening. I don’t really want to pay £180 for pro version just to install a plug-in to complete the migration. Is there another way to backup the site and get an exact replica on the hosted platform? Hostek support suggested contacting you. Thanks very much.

To clarify, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

We can’t help or advise with sites hosted elsewhere, but I can get you pointed in the right direction.

Since your host uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform (which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com), help is available at the community forums here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/

The folks in the open-source forum are more familiar with these issues and are in the best position to help.

I hope this points you in the right direction.
