exporting a XML file

I am trying to export a WordPress site to Squarespace and I am receiving failure notices. Per Squarespace, I am being told that the XML file is too large. Is there a way to break this file into smaller files?

    hi,

I found an old article which might be helpful:

Split WXR and XML Files Into Smaller File Sizes

The better option is to break the export into several files by
    date range.
Note that during Export, you can choose to export specific content eg by year.

  • Hi there,

WordPress.com automatically splits export files and sends you a link to download those files in a .zip folder, so it sounds like you might be using the open source WordPress software instead, especially seeing as you don’t appear to have any WordPress.com sites in this account.

Try searching online for an XML-splitter, though you should have the option for incremental exports there as well, as outlined in the WordPress.com support doc that @kosiew linked to above. Just note on a self-hosted site you’ll do this from WP-Admin, not the My Sites interface as on WordPress.com, so it won’t look like the screen shots in that support doc.
