Exporting and Importing
-
I exported my file at letourchildrengo.wordpress.com and it came to me as a zip file. When I tried to import it to WordPress in Bluehost, it wouldn’t take it and said it needed to be a WXR file.
Please help! Thank you.

Hi there,
If you open the .zip file on your computer, you should find an XML file contained inside of the .zip archive. Are you able to import by using the XML file instead?
If that does not work please try creating a fresh backup here to rule out any errors with the export you have currently, and try again with that updated file.
If trying these two things does not help, please let us know so we can take a closer look.

Thank you! I can try that, but, before I do, can you tell me if the problem is with my site being free at wordpress.com? If I upgrade to a paid plan, would that make a difference?

Hi there,
No, it doesn’t matter if you’re on the free plan. I suggest extracting the zip file and uploading that instead.
Also, make sure you’re using the default WordPress importer that’s already installed and not a third-party importer plugin.
