Exporting backup file(s) from my website

    Hello there

I’m trying to transfer content from my old, paid-for wordpress website hosted by midphase. After weeks of trying, I couldn’t get the XML export file as every time I tried to download it, i was taken to an error page. I contacted Midphase support and they said it was memory problem and tried to resolve it but couldn’t.

So, eventually all I could do was download a backup file/folder from Cpanel (the midphase control panel). But that doesn’t seems to work when I try to upload it to my wordpress.com site. It say it’s too big but I think it is also the wrong format (not XML)?

Really not sure what I’m doing here and it’s been taking hours of discussions with the midphase/cpanel people who have now insisted wordpress should be able to help me upload this backup.

I would be incredibly grateful for any help you can give me with this!

    Many thanks

    James

  • Hi,

If you are trying to import your content from a self-hosted site to a free WordPress.com site, it is only possible by using an XML file obtained with the export tool and then importing it here with the import tool

If you are considering purchasing a plan with us, you could use the Move to WordPress.com plugin for a straightforward and easy way to migrate your site! Here you have more info about this:
