exporting current wp blog to new wp blog

  can i copy my blog to a new name to empty my old blog or will the address be unusable after export?

  Exporting makes a copy of the content on your site. It doesn’t remove any content.
  You’ll need to delete the posts/pages yourself. If you want to import that content to another site (and it includes images) then don’t delete that content on the first site until it has been successfully imported into your new site.
