Exporting File Type

How do I export files to my computer without needing dreamweaver to open and view? The xml file will only open in Dreamweaver, and I do not want to have to sort through code, I merely want to content of my posts.

We don’t currently have a way for you to download and save your blog entries other than the export which you’ve already done.
If you so desire, you can always import the file which you’ve downloaded to a self-hosted WordPress.org account where you can install a plugin which allows you to download individual posts, such as this one:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-post-to-pdf/
Keep in mind that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different things:
