Exporting Files
-
Hello, i recently transferred my blog to bluehost. I have been trying to export my files from my old account and import them to my self hosted account. I followed the guide on how to do this. But when i try to import the exported files i get the message ‘ This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number’ – its also showing that the file is a ZIP file. Please help, don’t know what to do.

Good Morning – What version of WordPress are you using for your self hosted blog? The latest version is 4.5.2. You can find this information by checking in your downloads. Update if needed.
Try to export your content again by following these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ Then see if you can import it to your new blog.
The full guide to move your blog from WordPress.com over to WordPress.org is available here: https://move.wordpress.com/
If you continue to experience issues, you can post at http://wordpress.org/support or search their forums for help. That is where you will need to seek out help with your self hosted blog once you have everything imported properly.
Lastly, you can tag this thread ‘modlook’ to notify staff that you are in need of their help if you continue to experience difficulties with the transfer of your content. Type ‘modlook’ into the tags bar in the right hand side of your screen, then select the ‘Add’ button. Please subscribe to the thread as they will contact you here. It may take a day or two to hear back.

We can ask staff for help. I have tagged this thread ‘modlook’ to notify them that you are in need of their help. It may take a day or so to hear back, in the meantime, you can search through or post at http://wordpress.org/support/ for any tips with importing.

Hi elliejanex, you’ll need to unzip the file then import individual XML files. Can you try that? Also, it may time out; but if so try running the file again. It should come through.
You also may need to contact Bluehost about the 405 error.
