Exporting from Manager not working

I’m trying to export my wp.com blog to my wp.org blog. My problem is at the Export stage, where instead of downloading (from Manage/Export) an XML file, I get my RSS feed page.
I’m using Safari.

nope the XML file is correct. In your wordpress.org dashboard go to import and follow the instructions. When the window pops up search for that XML file and import it. All your posts and comments/catagories will be uploaded. You cant carry over your Blogroll for some reason though

Your browser is assocating the XML file as RSS. You need to tell it not to for teh time being. Not sure how to do it on a Mac though. On a PC, it’s called File Types.

it shouldn’t really matter Dr, since he’s not opening the file, just importing it into WP, which then does everything in the back end. My browser reads XNL as rss aswell but it dosent hinder importing or exporting.

Safari always has this problem michami and without ‘hacking’ safari up a bit, it is extremely difficult to get it to play nice. I know it is a pain, but use Firefox browser to get your export file because it works great on a Mac for this function. Safari doesn’t play to well with wordpress.com for some strange reason as there are many other issues, but don’t fret, the export will work with another browser.
