exporting images

every time i try to export my media library the process fails after only 1-2 megs. re-starting the download only produces the same result. i have a quality internet connection. are you servers timing me out?

  • Hi there,

I’ve visited your site and noticed that you have quite a few images in your media library (1.7 GB) and because it is so large the download might time out before it completes. This is especially an issue if you have a slower internet connection so it is recommended to use the fastest connection you havf available.

If your browser supports resuming a failed download you should be able to just resume it without starting over completely, but if you find you still are having issues please run the following network test to check your connection speed: http://www.speedtest.net/

Can you tell us the results you get for:
    – Latency (ping)
    – Download speed
    – Upload speed

    Thanks for the additional info!

20mg download, 20mil ping. both are more than sufficient to download gigs from other services with no issue. it seems your server is throttled or something. it only attempts for about 2 minutes and 1-2mgs before failing. ds

  • Hm, the throttle is not from our end, we don’t have any such thing, and I’m also able to download your export without issue.

Are you able to try from a different network?

the library limit on a free account is 6gig so mine isn’t that big according to that ability.

can you just put the library in a dropbox/google drive/or ftp folder and i will pull it from there… :)

i don’t have access to other networks.

the wordpress server is only delivering at a 1.5k rate according to wireshark…

if i go to googledrive i can pull down 3gig folder in a few minutes.

    sorry, 154k/sec.
i’m using the most recent firefox and the whole process just fails after about 2 minutes of download

  • Hm, I wonder, would you mind trying in a different browser, like Safari if you’re on macOS or Edge if you’re on Windows?

    i’m on linux. i don’t see any evidence it’s a browser issue.

i can, and am, restarting the download [35 times so far] after it ‘fails’. it loads about 4-6mg before it tells me it ‘fails’. and i reload.

you said you downloaded my media library easily? are you an employee/contractor/volunteer with wordpress and on a network of theirs?

i like WP, have installed and used it for clients for the last 10 years… big fan. and i know this is a free service type but, the promise of exporting your site is not being met and it’s not on the user side as far as i can tell.

    peace!

  • Hi there,

Large media exports sometimes time out. There’s not always something specific that causes it, and it’s not something we have any control over.

If that happens, and your browser doesn’t give you an option to just resume the download, please try using a download manager app/browser extension instead.
