Exporting & importing- wordpress.com slideshows other

  1. I use the wordpress.com shortcode “slideshow” method for embedding slideshows into blog posts. Will such slideshows easily export from a wordpress.com blog and be imported into another wordpress.com blog with loss of images, etc. Or do I have to fix certain things manually in new blog to make slideshow work?

  I have read the support documentation and it implies may be images might be easily imported into new blog.

  2. Exporting some blog posts, means that the original post still is in old blog….until it’s deleted it, right?

  I’m not sure of the answer to the slideshow question but I know when I tried it, it didn’t work. I think for a slideshow to work the images have to either be unattached and attached (like for a gallery that’s attached to just one post) or need to be brought into the post via the media button in the post editor (drag and drop) from fresh.

  Exporting just takes a copy of your posts, pages, categories – whatever you choose from what’s available to you in it – and doesn’t delete anything.

  You do need to make sure, with exporting posts that have images, that you check the ‘attachments’ option too.

  I’ve successfully exported from one wordpress.com blog to import everything into another wordpress.com blog. But if you have a lot of posts and a lot of images, it can take a long time and you might have to split it into smaller imports. I’ve not done that myself, but you’ll find several posts here in the forum about it.

  By the way – a suggestion: make everything draft before importing (you can do that as a bulk edit first via the ‘all posts’ page in your dashboard) then when you’re happy with stuff and make them public again, with luck they’ll all ping.
