exporting my wordpress site

    Hello,
So, what I’m essentially wondering is this: if I build a website on wordpress.com and use the export feature to create an .xml document with all of my data, will this retain formatting and everything else when I upload it to a new server? I already have a server and website, but whenever I try to use wordpress as downloaded from wordpress.org it says I need PHP 5.0 or newer. To the best of my knowledge, however, this must be run on a server. As I’m just renting server space, however, it doesn’t seem as though I can utilize that to run the application. So what I would like to do is use wordpress.com along with purchased templates to create a website which I would then export onto my own hosting server. Is this possible via the export feature?
    Thanks for the help

  • Export lets you export only content. Not the theme. Export support document details what can be exported.

However if the theme is free, then it is most likely available in WP.org Theme Directory. So you can download the theme and use it with your self-hosted blog.
