Exporting of large website, a better way?

    I am working with a client who has a WordPress.com blog. This is a very large website with hundreds of high quality (large file size) images.

    I have exported the XML and have spent over 2 days trying to import (on a WordPress.org website) to no avail. I am guessing I only have about 3% of the images uploaded.

    Is there a better way to do this? My import seems to be timing out. I wish there was a way to download everything through FTP and then import a copy of the SQL database.

    Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I have heard people break up the export by date or by category. Can you do that? If not, we could get staff involved.

    Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve tried breaking it up and doing by month but it is still taking forever. I think it is just the images are too large and there are too many of them.

    How do I get ahold of the staff?
