Why can't I export my old blog to my new, WordPress.org site?
-
I have moved over to a wordpress.org site hosted by godaddy.
I am trying to export my old wordpress.com blog to my new site. I’ve followed the instructions, but I keep getting a message saying the file is empty.
Also I would like to know if it’s an option to keep my old site up at http://www.pippinspics.wordpress.com
Blog url: http://pippinspics.com/ -
Thanks! So I can’t figure out how to get my old site up… I’ve chosen to use http://www.pippinspics.wordpress.com under domains in wordpress, but still when I click on it, it goes to my new site…
I’m really more concerned with transferring over my posts from my old blog..
All I’m doing to export is going to my dashboard of my old site, and clicking export under tools. It asks me to save or open a file… I choose save… then I go to the dashboard of my new wordpress.org blog and choose import… I chose the file, and hit upload…
Then I get the a message saying the file is empty :( -
Since you mentioned the redirect not being correct, are you sure that you aren’t accidentally exporting your new (and empty) blog?
Can you access https://pippinspics.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ directly?

Hi All,
I tried again this morning and made certain I was exporting from my old blog (www.pippinspics.com/wp-admin/) to my new one http://www.pippinspics.com/wp-admin
The file exports and saves ok, but when I go to import in my new blog, this is the message I get. Not sure what the last part means, but I’m pretty sure the file isn’t empty, because when I go to open it on my computer it’s full of text…
Also I’m wanting people to still be able to access my old blog but even when I type in http://www.pippinspics.wordpress.com it still directs to my new site…
I’ve sent an email to wordpress support, and haven’t heard back… does anyone know the typical wait time?
Thanks for the help! :)
….Import WordPress
Sorry, there has been an error.
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini. -
Also… My permalinks still direct to my old site..
http://pippinspics.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/pippin-family-hudson-gardens-parker-co-family-photographer/ for example is my old site
but when I type in http://www.pippinspics.wordpress.com however, it goes to my new site -
Hi there,
Can you confirm that you’re on the Dashboard for pippinspics.wordpress.com when creating the Export file? Above, I see that you wrote “I was exporting from my old blog http://www.pippinspics.com/wp-admin/ to my new one http://www.pippinspics.com/wp-admin.”
Both of these URLs appear to be the same. Would you mind confirming if this is a typo?
Otherwise, when I visit pippinspics.wordpress.com, I only see your old, WordPress.com site. Are you still encountering this error? If so, can you try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesLastly, if you are definitely exporting the content from pippinspics.wordpress.com, would you be able to send an additional ticket to Support with your XML file attached?

Yeah I can confirm that I am on the old one when I export… it has all my old posts (all 93 of them)
It was a typo that they were the same, sorry about that :)
That’s good to know that when you visit http://www.pippinspics.wordpress.com it’s my old blog…. when I go to it on my home computer it pulls up my new site, but when I go to it on my work computer it’s my old site…. could that be needing to clear the cache, or could it be that I’m somehow permanently logged into my new acct on my computer at home?
