Exporting Posts Error

  I’m trying to export my WordPress.com posts, and every time I do and I open the XML file, above the text is a big pink banner that says “This page contains the following errors:

  error on line 2690 at column 2588: EntityRef: expecting ‘;’
  Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.”

  I have no idea how to fix this – someone please help!!

  For several years I used a WordPress blog in connection to my old HTML website, but since moving to WP on the proper site, I don’t need the second install. Now, that said I have been slowly exporting and importing groups of categories and was fine. However, now with the largest category and some several hundred posts, I cannot export to the file and instead am brought to a login screen. Cutting and pasting each and every post is not something I wish to do so please advise on this.

  PS: Why does the import not place the files imported from posts into the new installs uploads directory? Having them reference a place that I want to dump from the server entirely seems counterproductive.
