Exporting specific posts

I wish to export a few posts from one blog to another. Both are on wordpress. Is there a way to do this? Please be fairly specific if it can be done. I’m very techno unsavvy.

This is a guess, someone who’s done more with the export/import process and is familiar with the export file will have to chime in.

AFAIK, the export files are just xml. You should be able to see the structure in the file. You’d need to keep the first tags as is, delete any of the posts you don’t (they’ll have a clear label) and the ending tags.

Give me a few and I’ll try it with my test blogs.

Looks like the individual posts and pages with their comments are between the
and
tags

You’ll have to find the posts/pages you want and make sure you get everything between those two tags. You’ll also need the top of the file basically the stuff from the top of the file to right before the first item tag. Then you’ll need the last two lines of the file
and

Honestly, if it’s only a few posts, save yourself the hassle and open the posts in the wordpress web interface, switch over to html view, copy everything out, open the html editor on your new wp blog and paste what you copied out.

If you want to do the xml thing, it helps to have a good text editor. For Windows I like Notepad++, don’t know about on Mac, and I’m using KWrite on Linux.

I think your last suggestion makes the most sense. Thanks!

No problem. It was interesting to see how the export xml was set up (yes, I’m geeky like that).

You can also change the author of the posts to an unused author and just export that author. It is a little bit of a hack, but it’d serve the purpose as well.
