Exporting Website

  I am trying to migrate my free wordpress.com site over to wordpress.org. The file I get from the export download says its not a WXR file. Im not sure what Im doing wrong. I get a zip file and when I open it, it opens up an internet page full of words.

  The export file is not meant to to be legible to us humans, it is produced in a way that the WordPress software can utilize.

  Running your own WordPress installation is much more hands on compared to using our managed environment from WordPress.com. Everything our team tends to like updates, seo, security, spam, hosting optimization, mobile performance, and so forth will now require that you tend those details.

  We will not be able to help you with the site in any way once it’s moved. Instead, you’ll need to use the volunteer network on https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

  I’m curious to know why you’re moving the site. If you don’t mind sharing, that is.
