Exporting WordPress Site
-
I’ve been trying to export my wordpress site, and I’m running into difficulties.
I’m logging in via wordpress.com to my account, and using
TOOLS -> EXPORTWhile I do receive a downloadable file for my posts and pages, it’s a miniscule fraction of all my posts and pages.
I’ve also been trying to download my graphic files as well separately, but the download never finishes and I always receive the “failed to download” error message.
Can someone please help me?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
While I do receive a downloadable file for my posts and pages, it’s a miniscule fraction of all my posts and pages.
How do you know that it only contains a fraction of your posts and pages? Have you imported it elsewhere?
I’ve also been trying to download my graphic files as well separately, but the download never finishes and I always receive the “failed to download” error message.
Your Media Library is quite large (1.4 GB) and it’s probably timing out when you download it. I suggest using a download manager like DownThemAll which has a resume capability. This way every time your download gets interrupted you’ll be able to resume it instead of starting over.

Yes I have uploaded it elsewhere (building a hosted wordpress page, so I’m using the same wp-admin features TOOLS – > IMPORT) on the unzipped file that I got from my initial download. I’m only getting 8 of my blog posts from 2016 to January 2017, and all posts from February 2017 thru the present (2020) are missing in action. As to imported Site Pages, several of those are missing as well.
I’ll look into DownThemAll for the graphics. Thank you for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, even using DownThemAll for the media file downloads, I’m still receiving the “NETWORK FAILURE” error.

Hi @kchulsmanphotos, can you try re-running the import? If the file download completes, the file is complete. So the content export (not the media, currently) is complete.
But it might not be importing completely if it’s timing out with the new host.
When you re-run the import, it will skip any posts it already imported and continue where it left off. So, if you get more posts then, it’s a good indicator it is timing out, and your host may be able to help with that.
Regarding the media file, I’ve just downloaded it from my home office without errors. If you can try again from a wired connection, it should work, but if you can’t do that, let us know.

Re: blog posts/pages: I have done so multiple times. Deleted the download files, trying fresh downloads, fresh uncompression, new imports.
Results are the same.
I’ve download the media graphics with my wifi enabled laptop, and my wired desktop on the media files and still am receiving the error.

OK. Here’s a link to the media I was able to download, in case your system is just having trouble getting it from our servers.
If you have the export files 1 and 2 and are importing them both, I can confirm the second one has posts all the way through 7/28. Try opening it with a text editor and scrolling all the way to the bottom. You’ll see a bunch of code about the Dino post. Scroll up a little more and you’ll see some emojis from that post.
If you’re not seeing that in the file, you can download my copy. Just let me know when that’s done so I can remove them.

Thank you for the links. It looks like I got all the media files (yay!) And these xmls are indeed complete, I can see the other posts.
