Expound theme display issue
-
This it timethief. I posted a private support thread for help 4 days ago and still have no resolution for my issue. That is why I am not happy :( and ut’s why I am posting here and tagging this thread for Themes Staff help.
I have two blogs under two different usernames wearing the same Expound theme.
timethief – http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com
thistimethisspace – http://thistimethisspace.comMy aim is to have the same featured post front page display on http://thistimethisspace.com as I already have on http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com
Note there are not 4 posts excerpts displayed side by side on http://thistimethisspace.com and that’s the issue.
Consult the theme description page please and note what’s required there:
Your first five posts with the tag set above and a Featured Image will show up in the featured area, with the most recent being the primary featured post and the remaining four in columns beneath it, as shown in the demo.
…
Featured Images should be a minimum of 460(w) x 260(h).http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/expound/
1. The 5 featured posts on http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com are all sticky posts (that’s not required by the theme), they do not have featured images of the required size, and there is no featured tag set on the posts or in the customizer (as required by the theme. However, the display is exactly what I want.
2. The 5 featured posts on http://thistimethisspace.com are NOT sticky posts (that’s not required), they do have featured images of the required size, and there is a featured tag set on the posts, and in the customizer as required by the theme.
So have I mucked around and tried making the featured posts on http://thistimethisspace.com all sticky post? Yes, of course I did that and it didn’t work.
I believe I’m either overlooking something or the theme is nor functioning as it used to. That is why I am asking for help. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait for another 4 days to get it. :(
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi timethief – I’m sorry that it took a while for a Happiness Engineer to get to your ticket in the private queue. I see that you’ve started working through this issue with a Happiness Engineer in your original thread, so to avoid duplicate threads I’m going to let you continue there.

Please close that thread and please help me in this one. Why? Because it was useless waste of my time to get a private support response 4 days after I posted for help that said it looked like I fixed things when not one thing had changed!

I’ve looked at these two sites side-by-side but I’m not sure I see what’s different in the top section, which seems to be the section you’re concerned with:

http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/

In what way are they looking different that you’d like to be more the same? If I can understand better what you’re after I’ll hopefully be better able to help you – thanks!

I have one computer and when I view the sites in the same browser I see two different displays.
Operating System Windows Windows 7
Web Browser Firefox 32.0
Screen Resolution 1024 x 768
Browser Size1010 x 580I give up so please just close both tickets.

Hi timethief,
I’m not Staff, but I took a look at both your sites and I’m seeing much of the same content that Kathryn is seeing (featured images, tags, and excerpts).
Perhaps if you posted screenshots of what you’re seeing on your computer, they might be able to help you better?

As schwuk has suggested in your other thread, it may be a browser zoom issue, as you may inadvertently – without realizing it – be slightly zoomed in on one site, but not the other.
If you try resetting the zoom to 100% in both browsers, please let us know if that solves it:

Hi there,
I have one computer and I’m using the same browser viewing both sites. Web Browser Firefox 32.0 and I tried both zooming in and out and it’s set at Zoom out. I still have this issue on my own computer but not on hubby’s. I’m going to uninstall FF and install it and set it up again. Thanks for your help Kathryn and Valentine. -

Not to be picky or anything but on http://onecoolsitebloggingtips I did not follow the theme instructions:
the featured images are undersized;
there is no featured tag on the posts (as required by the theme);
there is no featured tag in the customizer (as required by the theme);
they are all sticky posts (not required by the theme).So explain that or not … lol :D

So glad the Firefox reinstall worked!
there is no featured tag on the posts (as required by the theme);
there is no featured tag in the customizer (as required by the theme);
they are all sticky posts (not required by the theme).So explain that or not … lol :D
I’ll attempt to explain. ;-)
Expound always displays up to five featured posts, as long as there are at least five published posts:
– if you’ve added a featured tag in the Customizer and given some posts that tag, they will be displayed in the featured spots
– if you haven’t feature-tagged any posts but have sticky posts, those sticky posts will be displayed in the featured spots
– if you haven’t featured-tagged any posts and haven’t stickied any posts, the newest posts will be displayed in the featured spots. You can see an example of this variation on the WordPress.org demo site, where there are no feature-tagged or sticky posts present in the demo content.I’m going to make the Expound documentation clearer so that this is all more obvious.
the featured images are undersized;
Expound is flexible in the feature-image sizes that will look acceptable in the featured spots. The reason the theme recommends a size of 460px by 260px (i.e. larger than the images you used) is in case a post ends up in the largest featured spot just below the primary menu, the image will be large enough to display nicely there. You can see in the WordPress.com Expound demo site that the dimensions of the featured image in the largest featured post (“How To Save Money On Your Travel Costs”) are 460px by 260px.
I hope this explains everything but if something still isn’t clear, just let me know and I’ll do my best to elucidate further. ;-) Now I’m off to improve the Expound showcase page…
