Expound Theme Questions
-
I’m having three problems in Expound. The first is that my blog posts should be aligning horizontally, but they are aligning vertically instead. All 6 of the blog posts are tagged as ‘featured’, which I have read will ensure that they will align horizontally, but they don’t. The second problem I’m having is that the featured images are not appearing on the post page, only on the home page. I have set the post format for each blog post to ‘image’, but that has not fixed the problem. The third problem I’m having is that the first featured article never changes even if I post a new blog. My understanding is that it should update to the newest post, with the previous post moving down and then to the right horizontally. Thank you for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I created a new blog using Expound because I was unable to change the size of the main image on the page. If you can help me with that, I would be very appreciative as well. So I am using both Edin and Expound and am having trouble with both.

I created a new blog using Expound
And, The URL of the wordpress.COM hosted site wearing the Expound theme described at https://wordpress.com/themes/expound (live demo https://expounddemo.wordpress.com/) is http://_____________?
-
Thanks for the URL. You cannot compel any theme to function in any manner that it is not designed to function in.
The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multi user software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
Every theme has a detailed theme description page and this one is at https://wordpress.com/themes/expound/ That’s where set up instructions for it are found. The live demo site is at https://expounddemo.wordpress.com/
Featured Images should be a minimum of 460 wide x 260 high.

And at least two of the images that I was already using were a minimum of 460×260, and those didn’t show up either.
-
So according to the theme description, Expound does not support post formats, but it offered the options to change the post format on my dashboard. That makes no sense. Do you know the answer to that?
Any ideas on the horizontal vs. vertical alignment of the blog posts. All of my blog posts are tagged as featured, and there are 6 or 7 of them. But each one is stacked on top of the other instead of 4 of them being side by side. Can you help me out on that one? The Theme description makes it sound like it should automatically align horizontally, but that is not happening whether the posts are tagged as featured or not.

So looking into the theme docs at https://wordpress.com/themes/expound/ it looks like you need to tag posts as ‘Featured’ to have them show up horizontally below the main featured post.
Currently you have only one post tagged with ‘featured’ https://freepressedtest.wordpress.com/tag/featured/ – and it is being shown in the top spot accordingly. Can you try to tag a few more posts with “Featured” and see how tings look then?

Apologies for jumping into this older thread! but I use the Expound theme, and I just wanted to add that even if you tag 5 posts “featured”, those featured posts will still display vertically on your homepage if you are on a small-screen device, or if you have set your computer’s monitor display to a large-print display… hmm not sure I’m describing that correctly!
– I myself have a small old-style narrow-screen computer monitor, so I have to set the display such that it shows fewer words at a larger size or they aren’t readable.
At a certain point of enlarging print, Expound’s horizontal line of 4 featured post thumbnails will switch to a vertical display. (with the 5th/ most recent post’s larger thumbnail still at the top)
Others visiting my blog will still see those 4 thumbnails arranged horizontally under the one larger one if they have a wide-screen monitor.
You might try holding the Ctrl key down while tapping the + or – key to enlarge or downsize your print and see if hitting the – key a few times will snap your featured thumbnails back into a horizontal line.

@freepressedmag – just checked and your featured posts line up horizontally for me (as long as my monitor display is set small enough)
Re one of your other questions:
Featured images in Expound by default only display on the homepage, they are not displayed in the post itself.Of course you can separately upload that same image into your post along with the rest of your post’s content (the ‘blah, blah, blah’), though probably better if you use a larger size than you use for the featured image thumbnails…
I really like the Expound theme myself, but it did take me a while to figure out some of its workings!
Don’t know why your top featured thumbnail doesn’t change when you upload a new post (as long as you tag it ‘featured’ or ‘sticky’), mine always do. I can make any 5 posts ‘featured’ but only the most recent of those is displayed in the top position. The other 4 are also displayed in date-order, can’t change that. You do need to tag the posts, I’m pretty sure that a new post that is NOT tagged ‘featured’ will display below all the featured posts.

Thank you so much! I have actually moved on to a paid theme and premium subscription. I do have a question about how to add custom CSS code. I have tried using the CSS editor, but nothing is changing (I actually successfully used once to add a third column of posts in Hive.) I am unable to open the Developer Tools or Inspect tab in Chrome they are both grayed out. I’m trying to make the top margin and space between the header and articles shorter so there is not so much white space. I’ve tried to insert CSS code in the CSS editor to do that, but nothing is happening. I’m sure I am doing it wrong. The site is https://freepressedmagazine.wordpress.com
Thanks in advance! -
@freepressedmag – You start another thread for your CSS questions over in the CSS Customization forum. Click on “Forums” in header above to go to the main page, then look for the CSS forum in the list at the left.
Good luck with your blog – looks like it’ll be a good one! -
