External custom themes

  I have a wordpress.com site, and I bought my domain name through wordpress last year (so it’s http://www.pavementmermaid.com)
  However, I really want a theme that’s been designed externally- but of course I can’t upload this to my site because it’s wordpress.com and not .org

  1) Is there any way I can upload a custom designed theme for my blog?
  2) Can I “sell myself” my domain from wordpress? So I can go to godaddy.com (or another host site), buy the domain again and set it up with wordpress.org?

  Sorry for the long winded-ness of this question. I just really want a web designer to sort out my theme but if I can’t upload it then obviously there’s not much point…!

  Is there any way I can upload a custom designed theme for my blog?

  Themes can’t be uploaded to sites hosted on WordPress.com. They can only be uploaded to self-hosted sites running the WordPress.org software. So if you want to use an externally designed theme, you’ll need to move to a self-hosted site. You can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you want to know more about what that would mean for your site.

  Can I “sell myself” my domain from wordpress? So I can go to godaddy.com (or another host site), buy the domain again and set it up with wordpress.org?

  There’s no need to sell or buy the domain again — you can Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar like GoDaddy if you’d like to have it registered there to use with a self-hosted site.
