External Domain hosted by WordPress.com
-
Hi, I am a bit stuck and I thought I would reach out for help.
My domain is from godaddy.com. I pay wordpress to host my my domain so I could have access to its tools.
I have seen that free wordpress sites cannot use external themes and cannot use the plugin feature. Since I am not on a free site and I pay to have my domain hosted, am I able to use external themes and plugins?
If so, how? I have downloaded wordpress, but it’s just a zip file on my desktop.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You pay to have your domain MAPPED, not hosted. Domain mapping gets you only exactly what it says: a custom domain connected to your blog here. You still have a WordPress.com blog.
In order to use plugins and external themes, you need to buy hosting elsewhere, install software from WordPress.org, buy and install a theme, add plugins, and then change the nameservers so your domain name points to that site.

Thank you! That’s very helpful.
Do you have any recommendation of who l should go through to do that? I am very new to all this (obviously).

I’m now further confused because godaddy.com is a webhost. Godaddy.com is where my domain is from.
I have my domain from godaddy.com.
I then downloaded wordpress from wordpress.org, but all it is, is a zip file on my desktop?
