External email subscribers

Hello.
I’ve recently returned to my old wordpress blog which I started in 2011. Last logged in around 2019/2020.
I have roughly 2,000 internal wordpress subscribers, and 2,000 external email subscribers. I have a Sign Me Up widget for people to subscribe for both.
However, since re-engaging with my blog, I’ve discovered that my outside email subscribers no longer receive email updates for new posts. I set up a new separate email address and tested the Sign Me Up widget on my wordpress page but no email arrived.I can’t for the life of me figure out how to reactivate my external email subscriptions.
Can anyone suggest / help / advice? I would be very grateful for help.
