External links won't work

  Hi

  I’m having some trouble with external hyperlinks – I can create them but when I go to check them before publishing, the links won’t work.

  I can still create internal links that work, and links on my blogroll and in older posts still work.

  I’m using IE9 and have tried deleting the cache but this hasn’t helped.

  Can anyone advise on what the problem is here? Thanks.

  What do you mean by “don’t work” – do they go to “types of blogs”

  Have you also tried logging out?

  Yes, I’ve tried logging out but that didn’t help.

  When I try to test the link I don’t get any message, just a clicking sound and a yellow flash on the bottom right of the ‘hand’ cursor.

  I’ve tried copying the URL in the link into another tab and it works fine there so the address is OK.

  Are you trying to insert them into a post or page, or into the top navigation or where? What is one of the links you are having problems with?

  I’m trying to insert them into a post – I’m using the Visual editor and the ‘chain’ icon, pasting in the URL, leaving the title blank, selecting the ‘open in a new window’ option and clicking Update. Then I’m selecting Save Draft and trying to open it from Preview – with the same problem every time.

  I just successfully put that as a link into my test blog without any problem.

  Have you tried a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome just to see if the issue is related only to IE9?

  I tried it on another pc with IE9 and it worked OK.

  So I’ve come back to my pc and tried various test posts etc. with the link sometimes working and sometimes not (at one point I thought I’d got a virus – everytime I put the word ‘zombie’ into the copy the link stopped working!).

  After much frustration the link does now seem to work (I have no idea why – I’ve done exactly the same process and used the same URL on the working link as in the non-working link – all I changed was the location of the link to a bit further on in the paragraph).

  Anyway, many thanks for your help and suggestions with this.

  You are welcome and hopefully whatever this gremlin is that is causing you issues will decide to leave you in peace soon.
