External self hosted – viewing in WordPress.com
-
Is it possible to have an external, self hosted WordPress site on a custom domain, displayed within a wordpress.com hosted site?
I have a site on WordPress.com (gapdecadeblog.wordpress.com) but I have now obtained my own custom domain and am hosting the same site on that, outside of WordPress.com. My hosting company provides the WordPress infastructure and software.
I would like to set up a means of having all my external blog posts show up within the WordPress.com site – kind of like repointing the DNS of the WordPress.com site to my domain. I realise this would not be likely, but is there another means of acheiving the same effect?
I want to do this so that all my external posts show up in the Reader, without having to get a full on power user Jetpack subscription.

Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
my wordpress.com (old) site is https://gapdecadeblog.wordpress.com.
My self hosted (new) site is https://srds.me.ukI have put up links to the new site on the theme’s cover page of the old site, and moved the existing posts to a Blog page, but these now also exist on the new site. I will eventually remove them entirely from the old site, once I am able to link them together.
What I want to achieve is a seamless link, so that when anyone opens gapdecadeblog.wordpress.com, they see srds.me.uk. I would like my new site to appear in the wordpress.com reader, as currently it does not (at least I can’t find it).
Thanks for the offer of help – I have been going round in circles (which is ironic when that is close to what I want, digitally… :)

Thanks for clarifying. What you’re wanting to do would not be possible. You would either need to import your content to the WordPress.com site and purchase a paid plan to use your domain here or purchase a site redirect to take any traffic going to your WordPress.com site and redirect them to your other site.
The WordPress.com Reader is for sites hosted here or sites using the Jetpack plugin. When using the Reader’s search bar, your Jetpack site will appear in the Sites search results for matching search terms.
If you have any Jetpack paid plan (either from the Jetpack plugin or from any of the Jetpack standalone plugins), your site’s posts will also appear in the Posts’ search results for matching search terms and also be displayed on Tag pages in the Reader. These are pages that display all posts tagged with a specific term, e.g. https://wordpress.com/tag/cats
A search for your site shows that it is already in the Reader:

I hope that clarifies things!
