external templates

  is there a way I can use external templates if i dont have my own server? I understand that if i have my own server, I just upload a template to it and then it becomes my template, but what if I dont have a server and want to use a template from say smashingmagazine.com who allows me to download a wordpress template, but then what do i do with it>

  No there is not any way you can use external templates on wordpress.com blogs.Your “external template” choices are to either self host or to hire a web host.
