External web host – DNS managed by WordPress – Email does not work

    Dear community.

I rented a web server with a domain from Greensta. Since I design my site with WordPress, I connected the domain to WordPress. For this I had to deposit the DNS servers with Greensta. If I understand correctly, WordPress configures the domain request and redirects it to WordPress’ own server. It all works great, but I’m not getting any more emails. I can send e-mails via the GreenStar web interface. However, when someone writes me an e-mail, it does not arrive.
I think this is due to DNS forwarding. However, I have already changed the MX value – unfortunately no result. Are there resourceful people here who can help me? That would be wonderful and I would be very grateful to you!

    Greetings, Daniel from Erdkinder.

  • Hi there, @wirerdkindergr!

The reason email stopped working after updating your name servers to WordPress.com is that DNS records for email were not added to your domain here at WordPress.com, where you now manage DNS. DNS records are not transferred automatically to the new name servers.

Saying that, it looks like you were actually able to add all DNS records for email to your domain here:

    https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/wir-erdkinder.de/dns/wir-erdkinder.de

What you will want to do is make sure all of those DNS records for email are correct. If they are, just give this some time. DNS propagation can take up to 72 hours but is typically much faster than that.

DNS propagation is the process of updating the information about a domain name across all the DNS servers on the internet. When you update the DNS settings for your domain name, such as changing the IP address or nameservers, it takes time for the changes to propagate across all the DNS servers on the internet.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your hint. Unfortunately it still doesn’t work. I cannot receive emails – only send them. However, this only works via the web interface.

  • Hey there,

I see 1 MX record in use in the DNS settings – are there meant to be more from the email hosting provider?
