Hi there,
The theme you have chosen is a two-column layout, meaning that there is one wider column on the left, for all of your content, and a thinner column on the right, which acts as your sidebar.
The space outside of these two columns is equal on both sides. There is no way to add an extra column over to the left on your theme, however, if you want a three-column theme, here’s a list to choose from: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/three-columns/
If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know!

Tabs,
With the Elegant Grunge theme, there are a few different layout options, including a three-column option, although, from the Theme Options page, this is puts in two right sidebars instead of a left sidebar and a right sidebar. See this screenshot: https://cloudup.com/cyiGEG3FZ1v
So it’s a case of finding a theme that supports not only a three-column layout, but a three-column layout in the format that you want (sidebar – content – sidebar).
And in response to your second question, yes this is absolutely possible. You’ll first want to go to Appearance > Menus in your dashboard. Then, you can add a link with the URL of # and Link Text of Categories. This will create a top menu item called Categories that doesn’t actually link anywhere, but then allows you to add the category links as sub-items to that menu item. This support article will help you with the specifics of adding menu items, but this at least covers the general approach for you: Custom Menus.
If there’s anything else I can help you with, just shout!

Hi there,
Here’s a few themes that have a sidebar-content-sidebar layout that you might consider. There are more, but this is a good starting point:
http://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/
http://massivepressdemo.wordpress.com/
http://coralinedemo.wordpress.com/2010/07/29/multiple-layouts-and-color-schemes/
http://adventurejournaldemo.wordpress.com/
http://academicademo.wordpress.com/
http://asceticademo.wordpress.com/
http://cometdemo.wordpress.com/And as for the infinite scroll feature (where posts keep loading on the same page), you are indeed able to turn that off: just go to Settings > Reading in your dashboard and deselect the “To Infinity and Beyond” feature.
If there’s anything else I can do, just let me know!

Fontfolio includes one sidebar on single posts, pages, and search results; this can be configured under Appearance → Widgets.
You can read more about the features of Fontfolio at http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/fontfolio/
