Extreme beginner

Hi!
I’m using dusk to dawn theme and I have no idea how to use widgets, menus… or really what that all even means.
Ultimately I want to have a few different tabs and be able to click them on the site and it to send my readers to related posts.
IE. health, Fitness, Travel. Unfortunately, I have only been able to make new menus but despite reading posts.
I have been unable to find a simplified explanation on how to link certain posts to certain pages.
Right now all my posts are related to one of the menu tabs and the others when you click them the content does not change at all. I have also tried categories but I don’t understand that either.
help please :)
Its to the point where I want to pay to upgrade but If I don’t understand the basics, how can I make my site more visually complex? I wish I’d paid attention in computers class!
