When I post it automatically posts to FB but the post on FB only appears to my friends. Each time after it posts to FB I have to go into FB and change the setting to public. Can you assist with this?

I think that depends on your Facebook sharing settings. If your account’s privacy is set to share your contents with your friends only, WordPress.com will publish your posts and pages on Facebook by following with setting.
My guess is that you’d need to set your privacy sharing settings to ‘anyone’ on Facebook, otherwise I’m afraid you need to change the sharing option every time WordPress published something on Facebook for you.
