Facebook and Twitter lost numbers & HTTPS

  • Unknown's avatar

Around a week ago, Facebook and Twitter counters on my blog went to zero. It seems that my blog is now with HTTPS and not HTTP URLs anymore. Did WordPress changed something? I did not.

    My site: https://chuangzuo.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

We are indeed switching over to an HTTPS connection for our entire site, which has been causing some issues with share counts for some social media networks. We have resolved this for most button types, but the official button for some social media networks is still having some issues.

While we are working on this, you can try using the other types of buttons which should show the correct sharing count for all of the networks. You can make this change at any time by logging in to your Dashboard and going to Settings >> Sharing.

In the future, should I share URLs starting with HTTP or HTTPS ?
    Thanks!

It’s entirely up to you of course, but if you send “http” then when someone visits the site and it is protected via https then it will automatically redirect appropriately. If however something has gone wrong and the site is not protected correctly, it will not redirect back from https to http in most cases.

So in short, I would generally give out http. :)

I changed the buttons to “Icon only”. Facebook and Twitter buttons show correct numbers. Google+ shows 0 for each post.

If I select “official buttons”, it’s the opposite that happens, Twitter & FB have 0 and Google have the right numbers. Any ideas?

    Hi Roch,

We are aware of this issue with sharing numbers being incorrect for certain button styles and are currently working to get a resolution. As soon as I have any additional information I will let you know!
