Facebook Followers
-
I am still trying to understand what Facebook followers are. I searched the topics on this forum and gleaned that they are followers of the Facebook profile(s) that the blog Publicizes to.
I publicize to my personal Facebook page. I noticed that every time I add new friends on Facebook and refresh my WP blog’s publicize connection, the number of Facebook followers increases accordingly. So I would suppose my Facebook friends are also my blog’s Facebook followers.
The numbers are kinda close, but not exact. I have 2,159 Facebook friends and my WordPress Stats say I have 2,044 Facebook followers. Any idea where the 115 missing people are? Are they the people who selected “Unfollow” on my Facebook page? Or is this question outside the realm of WordPress Support? :)
It’s not an urgent question or anything. I’m just really itching to get to the bottom of it. Thanks.

When you use Publicize to auto-post the social network followers/friends are added to your WordPress.com followers.

When you connect your Facebook profile to your WordPress.com account, we display your friend count as your follower count from Facebook.

For some of us, this is a disincentive to link to Facebook. I have a blog with about 20 posts. Its sidebar widget embarrassingly claimed that I had managed to amass a couple hundred followers. I was concerned that some readers might assume I was responsible for that obviously inflated count. So I terminated the Facebook connection.
