Facebook integrations with new Facebook pages organistion

    Hello, I’ve been sharing posts from our WordPress page to Facebook with an integration via my Facebook account. Now that Facebook has changed the way pages are organised, I cannot find the integrations settings within the Facebook app to check this is working when posts don’t appear. I author a separate page for Shropshire and Staffordshire National Trust Volunteers, but sometimes posts don’t appear, so I have disconnected and reconnected in WP. Now I don’t know how to do this on the Facebook side – the WordPress help seems out of date now for how this works. Can you help explain? Thanks.

    You would not need to reconnect inside of Facebook, just inside of WordPress.com. What is the Facebook page you’re working with (please provide a link) and are you able to confirm the URL of the site feeding to this Facebook page please?

    We can take a look and make sure everything is in order.

    As I wrote the link is working now, but in the past on occasions this has broken.  I thought it had stopped around 28.10.22. so disconnected and reconnected.

    I used to be able to see the status in Facebook as well as WP – do you know is this no longer the case?  The how-to material at wordpress.com/support says about actions in the FB pages which seems out of date?  

    The basis problem is that I only ever know that this link isn’t working, when a WP post fails to appear in FB and I have to share manually or create a new post having repaired the integration!

    Can you point to an example of a specific post that did not get shared on Facebook? Your connection now appears to be working fine from our end (and you seem to indicate it is working for you, too), so there is nothing for us to troubleshoot there. But if you can point to a specific post you had this issue with, we may see more about it in our activity logs.

    Sadly, Facebook is a platform that is changing all the time, so it can often be the case a feature you saw on that end may be moved or changed. It’s difficult for us to keep up since it seems they are changing their platform daily.

    Also, due to the many changes that Facebook makes on its end, connections can often be broken, and we have no way of knowing that until it suddenly stops working. The good news is that reconnecting (as you have done) usually fixes this issue. It may be the case that you will not see the problem again now that you have reconnected.

    Thanks for trying to explain and provide more details. Unfortunately the FB help link you’ve referenced no longer fits with the layout of my pages. I literally cannot find a setting for apps in FB for my page, nor even under the heading of business integrations in the Meta business suite pages is there any reference to the WP connection. I don’t believe the fact that the connection is present is even visible in FB to a user any more!

    Regarding examples, I don’t currently have a firm recent example. The date of 28.10 was one where the post did not seem to appear in FB. So I disconnected and reconnected, even though the integration on the WP side did already seem to be active. After a delay of some minutes my latest post appeared. I am not sure whether this was just an unusual FB integration time delay or if my disconnect / reconnect process fixed any issue present at that time. Going forward I will post here again if I get a concrete example so that from WP side logs can be checked. Thanks.

    Speaking from personal experience I have so many glitches with auto sharing to Facebook, and it’s not just from my WordPress site. It’s from Instagram, and other social platforms too. It’s not helpful at all, but I can tell you that Facebook is just flakey in how it is set up to integrate this functionality, because it is always being glitchy.

    If you aren’t seeing what you should on Facebook’s end I would try and reach out to their team. You could also try using the app or a different browser, sign out + back in to the account, and so forth. Sometimes that will trigger things back to working order, but again I can’t explain why this happens, I’m just speaking from my own personal experience.

    When you have a post that fails to share on Facebook you can always copy + paste the link from the post and publish it as a new update on your Facebook.
