Facebook Like Box Widget

I have added the Facebook Like Box widget. But when I log out of Facebook, the Like Box becomes generic and no longer shows my Facebook Page. How do I keep the Facebook Like Box current, without ALWAYS having to be logged into Facebook? Thanks!

  • It looks like you have removed the widget.

Would you please add it back so we can take a look at the problem?

Sorry! I removed it because it wasn’t working yet…

But I have added it back in now.

Thanks so much and please let me know if you need anything else.

Hi there, the Facebook Like Box only works with Facebook pages, and what you are using with your widget appears to be a profile page. That’s why visitors who are logged out of Facebook (including you) will see the “Facebook Public Profile – Login to see this content” message. You can find more information about the Facebook Like Box here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/#facebook-like-box

So you’ll need to have a Facebook page for the widget to display as expected, or you may want to use a Facebook Badge instead: http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/facebook-badge/

Thanks Jenia! I do have a Facebook page as well as a profile page. I have two wordpress blogs – one personal, which I have set to update to my personal FB profile page. And now one “business” blog, which I would like the FB Like Box widget to work for my FB page. I have chosen the FB page under Sharing for this blog (danceher.ca). Is there another place I need to choose my FB page vs my FB profile page for the FB Like Box to work with my FB page?

PS Thanks for your speedy responses – much appreciated!

I’d recommend that you check that your business Facebook page is set up as a page and not a profile (right now, it seems that it is set up as a profile, that’s why the Facebook Like Box does not display the details for the logged out users).

We have an overview of Facebook integration features in this support article, if you are interested.

Thanks again. My Facebook page is indeed a page. :) This has been confirmed with being able to assign it a unique name without all the additional letters and numbers behind the address (www.facebook.com/DanceHer.ca), as well as the Facebook Page app that I use to access this page on my mobile.

Also, when I am in WordPress and I go into Sharing, under FB and Set Options, I have chosen to post to my Facebook Page (DanceHer) instead of my Facebook Wall.

I tried to include print screens in this post, but it’s only accepting text.

I am postive that my page is indeed a FB page. How do I ensure that the Facebook Like Box stays available even when I am logged out of FB?

  • Ah, I see the problem, the page is not public. It needs to be publicly viewable to use in the Like Box.

How do I make this page “public”? I have “published” it via Facebook.

  • I’m not entirely sure, you’ll need to check with Facebook on that. There should be some sort of visibility or privacy options for this.

Basically, you should be able to see http://www.facebook.com/DanceHer.ca when logged out of Facebook, just like you can see http://www.facebook.com/WordPresscom when logged out.

Thanks again. I searched and found that the age restrictions on your Page can affect it’s search capabilities. So I removed the age restrictions and it seems to work now!
